2023 HIGH SCHOOL TOURNAMENT FORMAT

  • Weight Classes (no allowance!): 106, 113, 120, 126, 132, 138, 144, 150, 157, 165, 175, 190, 215, 285 
  • Brackets will be double elimination, with wrestlebacks to 8th place
  • Challenges will be allowed for the championship semifinals and finals matches
  • Champions will receive custom championship belts and 2nd through 8th places are awarded medals. Finalists will receive custom championship singlets. 
  • Wrestling begins at 8:00 am Saturday. We will wrestle all rounds up to, but not including, the Quarterfinals, on Saturday, and begin with the Championship Quarterfinals and Consolation Round of 8 on Sunday morning. Wrestling will begin Sunday morning at 8:00 am. 
  • We anticipate the tournament ending around 5-6 pm on Sunday, based on previous years, but cannot give an exact time
  • Saturday all championship AND consolation matches will be 2 - 1.5 - 1.5
  • Sunday, all championship matches will be 2-2-2 and consolation 1-2-2.
  • For SUNDAY sessions, both consolation and championship, current NFHS overtime rules will be used. The two 30-second periods will now be included (previously, the match went into the ultimate tiebreaker following the one minute overtime period)
  • Folkstyle (Scholastic)
  • College out-of-bounds rules will be used
  • NEW: all takedowns  (High School division only) will be worth 3 points.
  • For grades 9-12. No post-grads! 7th & 8th graders may wrestle in the High School Division if they choose to, but may not compete in both the Middle School and High School Divisions.
  • Girls may compete, but may not compete in BOTH the Girls' and High School Divisions.
  • Please note: due to the size of our tournament, most weight classes are 128-256 man brackets. Please be aware there is a strong likelihood that you will wrestle more than 5 matches in one day.
  • 12-16 wrestlers per weight class will be seeded. Seeding will be done by a committee and will primarily be determined by performance in state and national events.
  • Tournament is run on 28 mats and 2 days (not all mats will be used on Sunday)
  • Certified officials will be used from many different states 
  • Champions will receive custom championship belts and top 8 places are awarded medals. Finalists will receive custom championship singlets. 
  • Minimum rest time between matches is 15 minutes
  • Headgear is recommended but not required
  • Nails must be clipped
  • Hair length is not an issue, but there can be no hard items in the hair (beads, bobby pins, barrettes, hair clips, etc...) nor can there be any hair treatments that are oily, greasy or slippery. If an individual wishes to wear a hair cover, it must be legal and attach properly to the headgear.
  • Facial hair length is not an issue. If an individual wishes to wear a mask, it must be legal.
  • Singlets are required for weigh-ins
  • Mouth guards are required for wrestlers with braces
